President’s Message:
We’re off and running and on behalf of the entire PTA I would like to say welcome to the 2008-2009 school year at Maywood Hills! Whether you are new to the school or have been around a while, we hope that you’ll get involved. By getting involved you will have the opportunity to make new friends, and meet other parents, teachers and neighbors.
Please plan on joining us for our first PTA meeting on September 9th at 7:00 pm in library. David Hoffman, our principal, will be talking about the upcoming year. This meeting is always a great way to get more familiar with all the programs and events going on at the school and it’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones.
A favorite tradition at Maywood Hills is our annual Back to School BBQ. This year the BBQ is scheduled for Friday, September 19, 2008. It is a fabulous way to kick off the school year with music, a book fair and delicious food. I hope you all can join us. As always, many volunteer hands make an event like the BBQ easier and more successful. So if you can help with set-up, clean-up or perhaps a short cooking stint to show off your BBQ skills, please call Debbie Williams (425-485-4152) or Teresa Hanley (425-485-0758) to volunteer.
Another exciting event this fall is our Fall Fundraiser. This is an extremely important event for our school and PTA. The money we raise from this fundraiser is used to sponsor family/community-centered activities (such as the upcoming BBQ) AND to provide direct support to such important school efforts as:
- the school bookroom
- PTA classroom grants to all teachers
- PTA grants to build needed PE storage space
- Field trip scholarships for those in need
- Reflections Program
- Art and science docent programs in the classroom
Thanks to Andrea Langkow for spearheading our Fundraising Program this fall. Please read her article in this newsletter to get more information on how to support our upcoming Fundraising activities.
We all strive to keep Maywood Hills a safe and strong community. Accordingly, please remember that school supervision starts at 8:20 am and your children should not arrive at school any sooner. Please review your letter from David Hoffman as to the new arrival procedures in place this fall at Maywood Hills. Please remember, these procedures are in place to provide for the safety and security of your child.
Maywood Hills is a wonderful place for our children. The PTA is an excellent way to get active in this supportive community. Please feel fee to contact me (425-205-8579) or our Membership Co-Chair (Katie Jewell: 425-482-9743) if you would like to learn more about the PTA or to be a volunteer.
I’m looking forward to an exciting and successful school year.
