Grading System

This grading policy clarifies for both the instructor and the student the method by which students are evaluated in physical education classes at Inglemoor. It is fair, reasonable, and easy for the student to follow. With this system, the student can monitor his or her own progress throughout the semester. Also, the system provides a behavior code for the students since it states what is expected of them. From time to time this system must be altered to meet the needs of special situations.

The students final grade is a combination of two areas:
1. PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE 50% of total grade
2. PERFORMANCE 50% of total grade

PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE

Participation is the combination of several areas. ATTENDANCE, EFFORT, FITNESS, NO SUITS, TARDY, CONDUCT.

1 point for being completely suited
1 point for follows directions and displays appropriate attitudes
1 point for being on time and attentive
2 points for displaying MAXIMUM effort

A student has the opportunity to earn 5 points per day, 20 per week, and 360 per semester.

330-360=A
310-329=B
290-309=C
280-289=D

A student must be present and completely suited for class in order to earn his/her points each day.

1. An UNexcused absence or UNexcused "no-suit" will result in a loss of TWO DAYS points. Four unexcused no suits will result in loss of credit.

2. To make up an absence you may get an "Activity Make Up Form" from my web page ( http://schools.nsd.org/~lwiley/ )and complete the requirements (40 min activity of your choice). You have two weeks from the date of your absence to make this up. Unexcused absences may not be made up.

3. We will do a cardiovascular activity on block days (two days per week) If you miss a "fitness run", and want to receive credit, you may get an "Activity Make Up Form" from my web page ( http://schools.nsd.org/~lwiley/ )and complete the requirements (Half Hour activity of your choice). You have two weeks from the date of your absence to make this up.

4. How active you are in the activity will determine a major part of your effort / fitness grade in this class.

Life Fitness: Actively participating in weight room activities. Working both on upper body and lower body. Fitness runs.

5. Tardy to class. If you are not in your proper spot in line at the time I start taking roll, you are tardy.

6. You are expected to stay in the locker room until the dismissal bell rings. If you leave early you will be marked absent.

7. All make up or late work must be turned in before the last week of the semester.

PERFORMANCE

Performance is the combination of two areas.
Tests & Quizzes 25% of total grade
Assignments 25%of total grade
(for each day a assignment is late, your grade will drop one grade.)

All forms, make ups, and study guides for tests can be downloaded at:

STANDARDS FOR AN A GRADE

1. Attend class regularly. An excused absence must be made up within 2 weeks. 5 points will be taken off your grade for excused absences.

2. Be on time to class. Attendance will be taken 5 minutes after the last bell. If you are tardy, 2 points will be taken off of your grade.

3. Be attentive and follow directions.

4. Suit up for class everyday and put forth maximum effort. 2 points will be taken off of grade if you put in minimal effort. Unexcused no suits will get 10 points taken off of your grade. If you have 3 unexcused no suits, you lose credit for the class.

5. Earn 330 - 360 attendance and participation points.

6. Earn an A on the take home test and exams. You must answer at least 90% of the questions correctly to get an A.

7. Turn in assignments and take home test on the due date properly completed. Your assignment score will be lowered a grade for each day late.
