Our Family's Auto Carbon Footprint all rights reserved
Lately everyone is finally talking about CO2 accumulation in the atmosphere causing Global Warming and Climate Change. Scientists have been studying this for over 20 years!
Let's do a little research and see how much gas and CO2 each of our households use or emit simply driving our family's cars! Then we will see what our class's footprint looks like!
Step One: Go to the Drive Neutral website at: http://www.liveneutral.org/calculator/
Scroll down to the Emissions Calculator
(Note: Neither SJHS nor Mr S endorses this website for anything but gathering information on how to calculate part of an individual family's energy footprint. However I'll give you EC if you can tell me what Live Neutral is trying to do about Climate Change &endash; see tab on website)
Step Two: Enter the Year, Make, and Model of one of your family cars/SUV/trucks/vans using the menu. (Note Jeep was listed as JEE. Also, if your vehicle is pre 1979 use the oldest listed similar vehicle).
Step Three: Miles per Gallon. Check the miles per gallon data. Adjust, if needed, to reflect your vehicle's mpg. Leave as is if you don't know.
Step Four: Annual Mileage: Ask your parents and enter approx miles
Step Five: Record: Enter the data from the website below for each vehicle.
Step Six: Repeat for all your vehicles
Step Seven: Total the columns indicated below
