How to Log-in

SIRS Knowledge Source provides thousands of full-text articles on social, scientific, health, historic, business, economic, political and global issues. Articles are carefully selected from approximately 1500 newspapers, magazines, journals and government publications. This excellent resource also provides links to Internet resources which have been selected for quality. Graphics, including photos, charts, maps, diagrams and drawings, are available for many of the articles. In addition, SIRS offers the top news stories of the day, frequently updated by Reuters News Service, detailed maps in an online reference almanac, access to World Book Encyclopedia articles, and a new section which focuses on Model United Nations.

How to Log-in

ProQuest Direct indexes a wide range of magazines, journals, and newspapers and generally provides the articles in "full-text" so they can be read and/or printed in entirety.
  • Hundreds of well-known magazines are indexed, ranging from the most popular main-stream news magazines to specialty journals focusing on business, science, health, or the arts.
  • Selected newspapers include respected international newspapers (in English) and a variety of U.S. newspapers, including Seattle Times and Seattle Post Intelligencer. ProQuest maintains up-to-date coverage, with no more than a twenty-four hour delay for newspaper articles.

How to Log-in
eLibrary indexes a wide range of magazines, journals, newspapers, and TV/radio transcripts and generally provides the articles in "full-text" so they can be read and/or printed in entirety.
  • Over 1600 magazines are indexed, ranging from popular main-stream news magazines to specialty journals focusing on business, science, health, or the arts. Also available are articles from BBC Monitoring, which focuses on media coverage and reactions to current issues in various regions of the world.
  • Selected newspapers include several international newspapers (in English) and many respected U.S. newspapers, including Seattle Post Intelligence, Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, and Wall Street Journal.
  • A reference section includes access to Britannica Intermediate Encyclopedia, Hutchinson Encyclopedia, The World Almanac, CIA World Factbook, Maps.com, and numerous DK Eyewitness Guides on scientific, historical, and literary topics.
  • Transcripts of television and radio programs from major television networks (ABC, CBS, CNN) and NPR (National Public Radio), including interview programs, such as Face the Nation, Talk of the Nation, and Fresh Air, and investigative reports, such as 60 Minutes, 20/20, and 48 Hours.
  • the Section on Books includes resources on topics ranging from history, international politics, medicine, literature and careers, to movies and cooking.  This is a great source for travel information with many Frommer's Guides and Passport Guides provided full text.

The CQ Researcher celebrated its 75th anniversary last year! A publication of the respected Congressional Quarterly, CQ Researcher focuses each week on a current controversial issue, providing complete background summaries, expert viewpoints representing all sides of the issue, timelines, bibliographies and more. World Book Advanced, an online offering of World Book Encyclopedia, is designed for high school and college students. In addition to encyclopedia articles, World Book Advanced (WBA) provides related magazine articles, special reports, historical primary resources, ebook articles, images, maps, and links to selected web resources.  To access WBA from home, use log-in information from the BHS Online Subscriptions Guide (see a librarian for a copy).

CultureGrams offers demographic and cultural information on most countries, focusing on customs and courtesies, lifestyle (holidays, recreation  and family) and society.  It also includes recipes, photos, and flags. To access CultureGrams from home, use log-in information from the BHS Online Subscriptions Guide (see a librarian for a copy).

After this initial log-in, bookmark the search screen so you can directly access SIRS from your home computer.


ProQuest Direct - Log-in Information
Access from BHS classroom or computer lab: This link should take you directly to the ProQuestDirect Search Page; if you should instead encounter the ProQuest Log-in Page, type IPAuto in both the Account Name and the Password fields and then click connect. Bookmark the search page.
Access from Home: This link will take you to the new account log-in screen. Refer to your BHS Student and Staff Guide to Internet Resources for the home log-in name code (10 characters) and password. After this initial log-in, bookmark the search screen so you can access ProQuest directly from your home computer.
eLibrary - Log-in Information
Access from BHS classroom or computer lab: This link should take you directly to the eLibrary Search Page; if you should instead encounter the eLibrary Log-in Page, refer to your BHS Student and Staff Guide to Internet Resources for the log-in name code (7 numbers) and password.  After this initial log-in, you should be able to access eLibrary directly from that computer.
Access from Home: This link will take you to the new account log-in screen. Refer to your BHS Guide to Online Subscriptions for the home log-in name code (7 numbers) and password. After this initial log-in, bookmark the search screen so you can access eLibrary directly from your home computer.
